Well no, not really

"It's that sort of swaggering response to adversity that has endeared this gutsy iteration of the USWNT to fans the world over."

The American coach drove me crazy with her over-the-top celebrations during the World Cup, and I can't think that most people in the world look at Americans taking their celebrations to extremes and automatically think, "Y'know, that athlete getting all in the face of her competitor sure endears her to me. I wish more Americans behaved that way. Could someone please tell the Men's basketball team?"

I watched the game live (as opposed to Americans, who had to wait for NBC to remember that they could show more sports than women's basketball) and saw the hit. It was unfortunate, it should have been a foul, but it was not, to my eye, intentional. (Sorry about the pun.) In fact, the whole string of events starts with the Columbian putting her hand on Wambach, who responds with an elbow, which results in the hand jumping up. It's part of the game, and it's why the ref is there. But since refs are only human, sometimes calls get missed.

I sure hope we're not going to have to put up with this sort of "sportsmanship" for the next two weeks.
