A Disturbing Exercise
I haven't talked to Peter Watts lately, so I haven't asked the impetus of this latest project of his. But of course, being a writer, these things have a habit of busting out when they're good and ready. Go to his Newscrawl and scroll down to August 27 2006: Housecleaning, and then read each entry (aside from the very next one, which is publishing news) going back up to the top. Freaky, creepy stuff, and I'm surprised more on it hasn't been burning up the blogosphere.

What Should SFWA Do For Me?
In the middle of several issues that have arisen lately, it occurred to me that I have been hearing a variety of people state a variety of beliefs about what SFWA is, and about its relevance (or lack thereof) to them. And so I have decided to set up this forlorn blog post as a distinctly unscientific sample on what people expect and what they want from SFWA as an organization.
Some simple ground rules:
Addendum: In case it needs to be said, this is not a SFWA-sponsored poll, despite my involvement on the Board of Directors.

And so I have decided to set up this forlorn blog post as a distinctly unscientific sample on what people expect and what they want from SFWA as an organization.
Some simple ground rules:
- Play nice. Everyone's input is valid. Indeed, I will quash any negative commentary. There are other forums for heated discussion.
- Please tell me where you live: US, Canada, or Overseas.
- Please tell me if you are currently a SFWA member, if you are a former member, or if you have never been a member. If the last, please tell me if you currently qualify to be a member. At this moment, I don't care what level of qualification.
- You are welcome to post anonymously, but remember Rule 1.
- You are welcome to email me instead if you are for some reason shy about this, but I will then post your comments anonymously instead.
Addendum: In case it needs to be said, this is not a SFWA-sponsored poll, despite my involvement on the Board of Directors.
