How are you?

Thomas in Edmonton.

Thomas, good to see you here. I'm well. You?

As far as the music goes, well, I can see complaining about one, maybe two (you can dis Tears or Floyd, but not both, and the whole Loverboy thing came out of one of the Oh What a Feeling compilations). But there's plenty of good tunage on that list, I'll have you know. I mean, how can you not like Kate Rusby? She's an angel. And the Femmes? The Mats?

I actually like Kate Rusby...but Loverboy? can't go there. Provocative list...idea. I like it. We're working our butts off putting The Roar Spoken Word Festival (www.theroar.ca) together....I'm likely going to be the festival director again this year, as we expand to a three-day lit-gasm. Poets, writers, spoken-wrod artists...in collaboration with each other, and other art forms...last year 100 readers. This year, closer to 150 scheduled readings. Very exciting. I'm looking foward to the "ROAR-crawl"--three lounges and three distinct readings (poetry, literature that goes well with a shot, or a fish-bowl of wine)...running concurrently...So the idea is that yo have a drink and listen to a reading then go to the next bar and have a drink and listen to some poetry...and so on. We'll make sure there are taxis outside the last venue. Other than that, I'm awaiting my new book, "Doubting Yourself to the Bone" (CORMORANT BOOKS)next month. Planning a party...(you have to celebrate all your children!!!) a release party...I've got east-coaast poet Zach Wells coming into town on Feb 24th. (he's the poetry guy at Quill and Quire). I lined him up with three local poets/writers...should be a great night. I'm hosting.
And the Raving Poets (www.ravingpoets.com) kicks off our sixth season tonight at the Kasbar Bar on Whyte Ave. We're there every Wednesday until the end of April.
Enough. There's so much going on in this city when it comes to he arts!!! I could go on.... But you've got Loverboy to listen to (HA!!!!!)
Talk to you soon
